Speculation persists that Marko Arnautovic’s time at West Ham United could be coming to an end.
The Austrian international has been a key player for Manuel Pellegrini, lighting up the Premier League with seven goals already to his name this season. The club’s record signing is subject from an unnamed Chinese club who have reportedly bid £35m for the attacker. Despite West Ham’s insistence their star player is not for sale, Arnautovic is reportedly (via BBC Sport) keen to make the move to Asia.
Another huge offer may even force West Ham’s hand. Indeed, there would be no point keeping the former Stoke man at the club if he was unhappy. Arnautovic’s sale would give Pellegrini a huge budget to source a replacement but the Chilean should move quickly to not disrupt West Ham’s decent form of late.
One man he could target is Atalanta hitman – Duvan Zapata. Valued at £19.8m by Transfermarkt, the Colombia international has bounced around various clubs in the Serie A after failing to nail down a starting berth at Napoli. Zapata eventually completed a permanent transfer to Sampdoria in the summer but was immediately loaned out to his current employers.
The 27-year-old has once again been in fine form, finding the back of the net ten times in just 19 Serie A appearances this season, as well as registering three assists. Zapata is a lethal finisher who excels at hold up play, using his immense strength to bring his team-mates into the game, meaning he would be perfect to link up with Felipe Anderson. With pace and power, the Colombian is developing into one of the league’s top forwards.
Zapata possesses all the attributes to be a success in the Premier League and would be a wonderful alternative if Arnautovic does leave the club.
