According to a recent report from The Guardian, West Ham are interested in luring Yannick Bolasie away from Everton this summer. The 29-year-old struggled for form in the Premier League last term and as such could be let go by new Toffees boss Marco Silva, although the Hammers should forget about landing him and instead target a move for his Everton teammate Ademola Lookman.
Ultimately, DR Congo international Bolasie has looked a shadow of his former self since returning from injury back in December last year, with the winger netting just once in 16 Premier League appearances last time round.
Yes, his recovery from injury must be taken into account, but as the season went on, Bolasie was unable to reach his former heights, the heights that earned him a move to Everton from Crystal Palace back in 2016.
As such, it remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old can indeed get back to his best, and with Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham likely eyeing up the top half and potentially the European places this term, he simply isn’t consistent enough to help the Hammers.
And while there are some question marks over Lookman’s ability, his excellent spell in Germany alongside his young age should make him a more desirable signing for the East London club.
The 20-year-old moved to Goodison Park back in January 2017 and immediately hit the ground running in netting within minutes of coming off the bench on his debut against Manchester City, although his progression has stunted since then.
What do you think of the World Cup so far? Let us know
The England Under-20 World Cup has since managed just 23 senior appearances for the Toffees and as such instigated a loan move to RB Leipzig back in January, from which he seriously reaped the rewards in netting five goals and laying on four assists in just 11 Bundesliga appearances.
Thus, having proven his worth in another of Europe’s top leagues, Lookman will surely return to England full of confidence and ready to produce the goods in the Premier League. But whether he gets that chance at Everton remains to be seen.
But at the very tender age of 20, not only would Lookman be a signing for the present, but also one for the future, and one that will surely be well received by West Ham fans who have seen their side sign countless over-30s in the last few years.
As such, the Hammers should forget about a move for Everton’s Bolasie, as there is only one Toffees star they should target this summer, namely 20-year-old Lookman.
