According to a report from Le 10 Sport, West Ham and Everton are interested in Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi. The France international is a part of Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad after a fine few years in Spain, although his future has become increasingly unclear as the summer has progressed given he is reportedly seeking a new challenge ahead of the 2018/19 season.
And with Marco Silva’s Everton and indeed Manuel Pellegrini’s Hammers thought to be keen on the £27 million-rated midfield enforcer (as per Transfermarkt), he should forget Goodison Park as the London Stadium appears to be the ideal destination for the 29-year-old.
Ultimately, while both sides could ideally do with midfield reinforcements this summer, Everton do appear to be reasonably well-stocked in that department despite Wayne Rooney’s departure to DC United last month.
Idrissa Gueye has consistently been one of their best central midfielders since his arrival from Aston Villa back in 2016, while Morgan Schneiderlin finished last season reasonably strongly with some fine displays in their last few matches of the season.
Add in the hugely talented Tom Davies, and new Toffees chief Silva may be reasonably satisfied with his central midfield choices ahead of the 2018/19 season, whereas the same is unlikely to be said of his West Ham counterpart Pellegrini.
And that’s because the Hammers struggled often in the middle of the park last term given Cheikhou Kouyate’s struggles for form and Pedro Obiang’s struggles with injury, leaving Mark Noble as arguably the main man in that area.
And while the Englishman deserves great credit for consistently performing well, it’s clear that more is needed in that department, which the arrival of Jack Wilshere on Monday may give Pellegrini as he eyes the next level with his new club.
Yet greater strength and industry is also needed in that department, which is why a move for N’Zonzi is imperative as the 29-year-old encompasses those traits, alongside genuine ability on the ball to help get forward and launch attacks.

And with his presence in the middle of the park, the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic would be able to produce the goods in the final third knowing the security is there behind them in N’Zonzi, who has been in fine form for Sevilla ever since moving there back in 2015.
Thus, while Everton may well be closer to the European spots, things are certainly looking up at West Ham under Pellegrini, and alongside the need for greater presence in the midfield, N’Zonzi should opt for the Hammers over the Toffees this summer.
