West Ham United fans here in the Tavern are hoping for a successful season from here on in, as their Premier League status is still in doubt.
The Hammers reaped the benefits of the January transfer window after welcoming three new additions to the London Stadium, as David Moyes looked for reinforcements after an injury crisis seemed to be plaguing the squad. But, it appeared that West Ham United didn’t receive all the signings they craved, as news has surfaced of a breakdown in communications with another Premier League club. As according to reports in the Mirror, Leicester City rejected a transfer approach from West Ham United for Islam Slimani because Karen Brady had previously annoyed them.
Indeed, United’s vice-chairman is believed to have annoyed Leicester City supremo Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, after previously being heavily critical of the way the Foxes handled the Claudio Ranieri sacking via a weekly newspaper column back in February.
As Karen Brady took to writing these words after receiving reports from a fellow Premier League director:
“A fellow Premier League director reports that last night he bumped into the Leicester chairman at London’s most-expensive wine shop.”
The Leicester owner told him they’d sacked Claudio Ranieri.”
“He then casually settled his bill for wine and champagne. Since the sum was close to £500,000 I guess the compensation to his old manager is pocket change.”
Subsequently, West Ham United were believed to have apologised for any wrongdoing and comments made, but the East Midlands club still remain unmoved by the comments as was proven by their recent rejection for the Algerian. Although, having managed to secure the services of Championship hot-shot Jordan Hugill, fans are hoping that he can be the man to carry them forward with them being heavily reliant on the 25-year-old become a success for the Hammers.
There’s no doubt that Islam Slimani is an exciting prospect after showing he can score goals at previous clubs, but it’s a shock to the system to see Karen Brady of all people at fault for potential business for the Hammers. However, fans won’t be too fussed after seeing them land Jordan Hugill, as his goalscoring form and performances have been far superior to the Algerian’s over the past couple of seasons.
