West Ham United are reportedly looking to pin down Gary Medel in the next few days in order for a smooth transfer at the beginning of the New Year.
According to Milliyet, via Sport Witness, Hammers manager Manuel Pellegrini has been impressed with the job the midfielder has done for Turkish club Besiktas and does he feel Medel would be of high value for the East London club as they continue to make a surge up the Premier League table.
West Ham have won four consecutive matches in the league and broke into the top ten following a victory over Fulham on the weekend. But Pellegrini’s squad has suffered a fair number of injuries since the start of the season and will he need to keep his players fit and ready if they were to continue their current form from January onward.
And Medel could be just the player to do that and compliment someone like Declan Rice who has been the standout performer for West Ham this campaign.
Having been shifted around in Pellegrini’s formations, Rice has formed the rock of the team’s midfield and has he developed into a strong holding player after starting his career as a defender.
The 31-year-old Medel though, will be no stranger to the Premier League following a stint he had at Cardiff City back in the 2013/2014 season.
But since then the Chilean has been a key player for Inter Milan before he made the move to Besiktas last year and has been the only light in a season that has seen the Turkish giants suffer some disappointing results so far this year.
However, his experience in both club and international level should be a benefit to Pellegrini who will need seasoned players to step up to the stage to make a push for a possible spot in the Europa League next season.
