In terms of numbers he isn’t really short of strikers but with Robbie Keane and Victor Obinna (although they could make this permanent over the Summer) on loan and Benni McCarthy effectively just leaching wages, they might be tempted to go back into the transfer market. Fulham have less in terms of numbers and rely on their midfield for their goals so again Mark Hughes looks set to move for a striker this Summer.
The player they are both being linked with is Almeria and Nigeria striker Kalu Uche who has spent the last 5 years in La Liga, but now appears to be ready to move on.
Uche spent the early part of his career playing in his native Nigeria and he was plucked from there and moved to the Espanyol reserve side where he struggled to break into the first team.
As a result of this Uche moved to Poland to play for Wisla Krakow where he was extremely successful, winning numerous league titles and domestic cup competitions. His goal scoring record attracted Spanish side Almeria who he helped to promotion to La Liga in his second season. He has become a fixture in their first team since then, but now with Almeria struggling towards the bottom of the Spanish top flight it appears the sprightly striker will move on at the end of the season.
The striker who can also play in the hole and potentially on the wing is known for his powerful strike and for his pace. Whilst by no means prolific, for Almeria he has never scored more than 9 goals in a season but he does provide for team mates and his pace causes problems for opposition defenses.
Uche has been linked to numerous sides throughout his career including Sunderland and an unnamed Russian club this January, and it now appears that Fulham and West Ham are leading the charge. If Almeria are to be relegated, it is thought that they would be willing to sell the striker for as little as £3million.
It is probably time for the striker to move on, especially if his side are relegated, he has remained loyal to his club for a while now, but the striker is 28 years old and it is probably time that he moved to further his career. Either West Ham or Fulham would benefit from the striker and I think although he wouldn’t be prolific in the Premiership his all round game would be of great benefit to either team.
