Huge boost emerges for West Ham ahead of Liverpool clash

West Ham supporters in the Transfer Tavern are relishing their side’s trip to Champions League chasing Liverpool in the Premier League this afternoon, as the East London club seek back-to-back league victories for the first time this season.

David Moyes’ men got back to winning ways in their preceding league encounter courtesy of a 2-0 success over Javi Gracia’s Watford at the London Stadium, with goals from Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic securing the three points which moved the Hammers up to 12th in the Premier League table, and four points clear of danger. Yet it is not going to be at all easy for Moyes’ side at Anfield on Saturday against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, who go into the match supremely confident after battering Porto 5-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie last week.

Nonetheless, there are some optimistic Hammers in the Tavern, and their mood is likely to be further improved by recent comments from manager Moyes in his pre-match press conference (via the club’s official website), which suggests that midfielder Manuel Lanzini is back in the squad for today’s game.

The Argentina international picked up a hamstring problem in West Ham’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth last month and has since missed their last three league games, which is sure to have frustrated Hammers fans given how influential the 25-year-old has been for the club this season.

And there have been murmurings throughout the week that the midfielder could return to the squad against Klopp’s Liverpool, and that has since been confirmed by manager Moyes in his pre-match press conference.

He said: ‘Manu Lanzini could [return this weekend]. He has been training, so he’s an important player for us, but he’s not played any games, so it’s one of those decisions we’ll take tomorrow.’

And this update is sure to come as a huge boost to manager Moyes and indeed the club’s supporters, who know their side will have to be at their best to beat Liverpool at Anfield this afternoon.

Landlord’s verdict: Manuel Lanzini has once again proven his worth to West Ham this season with three goals and six assists for the club, helping them to 12th place in the Premier League table.

Yet the midfielder has missed their last three league games due to a hamstring problem, only for manager David Moyes to disclose a huge boost in his pre-match press conference on Friday by confirming that he is back in the squad for the trip to Liverpool this afternoon.

And with Reds in excellent form after drubbing Porto 5-0 in their last outing, this is sure to come as a welcome boost for our resident Hammers fans, as they know they need their best players performing at their best to get anything out of today’s game.
