According to a recent report from ESPN, Javier Hernandez could be set for a move away from West Ham in the near future. The Mexico international made the move amid the London Stadium under Slaven Bilic last year to much excitement and anticipation, yet his lack of regular football under new boss Manuel Pellegrini has called his future at the club into question.

And reports suggest that Turkish giants Besiktas are eyeing up a move for the 30-year-old striker, a move the man himself simply must seek to make in a bid to rid the Hammers of an abysmal Bilic signing.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, there was much expectation of Hernandez when he arrived at the London Stadium back in 2017, what with the Mexican having shone for Bayer Leverkusen the two years previous to suggest that he was the forward the Hammers needed to move up the Premier League table.

And while he finished the season with eight league goals to his name, thus not by any means a poor season, he didn’t have the desired effect on a regular enough basis - after excelling in the Bundesliga, and indeed having proven his worth in the Premier League at Manchester United in the past, West Ham fans would have expected more from a marquee addition.

In fact, Hernandez’s struggles leading the line for the East London outfit, a scenario always likely to happen given he has often found it difficult to play upfront on his own, saw ex-boss David Moyes convert Marko Arnautovic into a centre forward - a move which went some way to keeping the Hammers in the top-flight.

At the same time, it left the writing very much on the wall for Hernandez regarding his future at West Ham, which remains in very clear lettering now given he has started just twice under Pellegrini in the Premier League, netting on just one occasion.

Clearly, for the benefit of his own career, the 30-year-old needs to get out of West Ham - things simply haven’t worked out for the Mexico ace in East London, much to the disappointment of the London Stadium faithful.

Yes, he did at least finish last season with eight league goals to his name, but on the whole Hammers fans would have expected a lot more from the 30-year-old, hence he will go down as a poor and abysmal signing from former boss Bilic, especially given it didn’t look like there was much a plan in place to accommodate Hernandez in the first eleven.

Nonetheless, with Besiktas reportedly keen on a move, Mexico’s record goal-scorer must seek to leave West Ham if and when the opportunity arises.
