West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are a lot more upbeat recently following their much-needed victory against fellow relegation rivals Southampton. The Hammers know they are far from out of danger yet but the 3-0 win was a huge step in the right direction.
The Hammers will also be happy with their clean sheet following atrocious defensive displays of late, albeit Southampton didn’t have a single shot on target. Nevertheless, if West Ham stay up or don’t, changes need to happen in every department of the team, starting with the goalkeeper us punters believe.
Joe Hart and Adrian have both been solely responsible for mistakes this season and the Hammers simply can’t carry on with swapping the keepers out when they make mistakes. Overall, the Hammers need to start again and bringing Tom Heaton to the club would be a tremendous signing.
The 31-year-old has spent his season on the sideline ruled out with injury and in his place, Nick Pope has been incredible for Sean Dyche’s Burnley side. Undoubtedly Heaton will still have his goalkeeping ability when back fully fit and considering he is valued at just £3.6 million on Transfermarkt, that would be a steal in the current market.
West Ham are desperately hoping to stay in the Premier League and then rebuild ahead of next season. It’s been another season to forget at the London Stadium but starting with the addition of Tom Heaton, the Hammers already would be a stronger and better team for next season.
Thoughts Hammers, is Tom Heaton the goalkeeper West Ham need?
