During this transfer window, West Ham have been linked with some big name midfielders as manager Manuel Pellegrini looks to strengthen his side in the middle of the park.

Jean-Michael Seri and Jack Wilshere, as reported by Sky Sports, are midfield players the Hammers have looked at, while according to Tuttomercatoweb, the club have also made an ambitious play for Real Madrid's Mateo Kovacic.

Getting any of the the players mentioned above especially Kovacic would be a huge coup for West Ham and these names are of the standard supporters have been expecting since their side's move from Upton Park to the London Stadium.

However, while acquiring Wilshere may be a possibility, both Seri and Kovacic have already or will attract a tonne of interest from the giants of European football.

With that in mind, the Hammers should strongly consider a move for Chelsea's Marco van Ginkel.

Van Ginkel, who is valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, isn't a name that will exactly get West Ham supporters off their feet – especially considering the current links to Kovacic & Co.

However, van Ginkel possesses many qualities and the type of versatility that would add much to West Ham's midfield. On top of the dog work van Ginkel is capable of doing, the 25-year-old is an incredible threat in front of goal.

Van Ginkel scored 14 Eredivisie goals from midfield for PSV Eindhoven last season, while The Netherlands international's overall goalscoring record is very impressive for a midfielder.

Considering his ability and peripheral status among the Chelsea squad, West Ham and Pellegrini should add van Ginkel to their midfield shortlist.
