‘Legend in the making’ – West Ham fans ironic on Twitter after last night’s friendly

West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to Jordan Hugill’s first goal for the Hammers. West Ham ran out 3-1 winners over neighbours Dagenham and Redbridge in yesterday’s friendly charity match as Michail Antonio’s double either side of halftime put the club into a 2-1 lead before Hugill put the icing on the cake to make it 3-1.

West Ham fans propping our bar up have been struggling for goalscorers as of late but striker Jordan Hugill could be just what the Premier League strugglers need. The former Preston North End man joined the club on deadline day of the January window and has made two appearances for the Hammers coming off the bench against both Watford and Brighton in early February. Although he’s been an unused substitute in the club’s last three fixtures, where the Irons have fallen to three consecutive defeats by a three-goal margin.

The Hammers sit dangerously close to the drop zone and find themselves in horrendous form at the moment. When you add that to the toxic atmosphere inside the London Stadium, it’s a recipe for disaster as West Ham could be looking at their third relegation from the Premier League. The local Hammers will be hoping 25-year-old Hugill can kick on from his first goal in the friendly fixture as they hope to retain their top-flight status for another season.

Here’s what our resident Hammers made of Hugill’s first goal:
