Manuel Pellegrini should raid former club for this £6.75m-rated shot stopper to replace Joe Hart

West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern finally have something to smile about as David Moyes’ replacement was confirmed.

The Hammers announced that Manuel Pellegrini would take charge of the club following a dismal 2017/18 season. The Chilean is a Premier League winner with Manchester City and a fantastic appointment for the club. Our punters are confident the club can now challenge for Europe if Pellegrini brings in the right signings.

Naturally, plenty of Manchester City players have been linked with a move to the London Stadium as a result of Pellegrini’s appointment. Yaya Toure has been linked with a sensational switch while a permanent deal for Joe Hart has also been mooted by our punters. Instead, he should look to former club Villarreal for his new number one.

Sergio Asenjo has emerged as one of the top goalkeepers in Spain during recent seasons and has made 23 appearances for the Yellow Submarine in La Liga. The 28-year-old is valued at £6.75m by Transfermarkt. He has excellent reflexes and excels at saving shots from close range. He is also exceptional at saving penalties – keeping out two in one game against Getafe to secure a 1-0 win.

Compared to Hart, Asenjo has made more saves and catches per 90 minutes than the former England international. As well as retaining a better save percentage, the Spaniard has better distribution at 61% compared to Hart’s 49% according to Squawka.

The Hammers need a new number one, Asenjo could be the answer to their problems.
