West Ham, having spent over £100 million, have found out the hard way that spending doesn’t always guarantee you to become a better team overnight.
Their team have yet to gel and players have desperately underperformed, West Ham are struggling right now. Usually reliable first-team players would be consistent performers for the Hammers but right now Manuel Pellegrini needs to figure out quickly what his best team, formation and tactics would be.
When you talk of usually reliable West Ham players, one of the first that would come to mind is Mark Noble but his start to the season has been anything but that.
The £6.3 million-rated central-midfielder has completely run out of energy and his position in the first team looks to be in jeopardy following successive bad showings. His inability to track back and help defend cost West Ham a goal against Bournemouth on their way to a 2-1 loss and just because he is the so-called”Mr West Ham” that shouldn’t mean he is immune to criticism.
It’s not as if West Ham don’t have replacements either, as new signing Carlos Sanchez is waiting in the wings to be given a shot. The Colombian international arrived to mixed thoughts but when making his debut for the Hammers, he looked calm and personified on the ball, spraying the ball around and maybe offering more than Mark Noble would do.
Sanchez is a more defensive-minded midfielder that could sit in front of the West Ham backline and clear away any danger that might come near. He should at least be given a go in midfield, seeing how badly the Hammers have been playing.
