After months of anticipation for this season, West Ham fans are again resigned to the fact that the way things are going, it seems another season of despair is coming.
Without a point and without a plan of how to improve, £100 million on fresh talent has proven to be unjustified thus far. Investing all that time and money into manager Manuel Pellegrini also seems to be a decision under scrutiny right now and the club are yet again in a spiralling downwards circle.
A particular problem that has been identified is the lack of defensive cover from midfield, and a defensive midfielder must be recruited at the earliest opportunity during the January transfer window. One player who could be a great addition at West Ham is Ignacio Camacho, who is valued at £9 million on Transfermarkt.
Currently, Camacho plays for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga and leads the German team with the captain’s armband wrapped around him. The 28-year-old is a natural leader and a player that thrives in the defensive midfield role.
Breaking up play and spraying passes around the pitch is Camacho’s game and someone like that, especially as he is well known to Manuel Pellegrini, would be a great idea as a January addition.
The Spaniard would surely jump at a chance to be reunited with the Chilean and a chance to play in the Premier League. Especially after the season they spent together at Malaga in 2012/13, where Pellegrini led the Spanish outfit to a 6th place and a Champions League quarter-final run, the pair could be back together to help West Ham cement their midfield problems and lead a surge up the Premier League table.
