Samir Nasri – a player who had it all, did it all, and then threw it all away. Now, Pellegrini looks set to offer him a lifeline and a shock return to the English game.
The French midfielder is a free agent after serving an 18-month suspension for a drugs offence he committed back in 2016.
Reports from the Mirror suggest that amongst the teams most keen for his signature is West Ham, whose interest presumably stems from the need to cover their extensive injury list which includes the likes of Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko and Manuel Lanzini.
Marco Silva is also considering the possibility of bringing the player to Everton.
It’s difficult to see what Nasri would be able to bring to the West Ham side other than experience. He’s been out of the game for a long time now, and with his last club Antalyaspor floating around the bottom half of the Turkish Super Lig, he was hardly at the peak of his game before he was released.
We understand that West Ham might be on a bit of a budget after spending big in the summer so here are two free agents who would make for great bits of business…
Rossi is another player who has found himself on the wrong end of a doping scandal. However, unlike Nasri, he was ultimately cleared.
Now without a club after being released, the former Manchester United, Villarreal, Fiorentina and Genoa player is free to sign.
His career has veered off slightly, after playing at the top level of Spanish and Italian football for some time, however the quality is very much still there.
He’s not the strongest player in the world, but he has a keen eye for a pass and knows how to find the back of the net when it’s asked of him.
We’d probably compare his play style to Manuel Lanzini.
Welbeck looks to be surplus to requirements at Arsenal under Unai Emery, and, with his contract due to end in June 2019, looks set to be available on a free at the end of this season.
You know what you’re going to get with Welbeck; high energy, industrious, pacy efforts on the wing, with some goal scoring threat.
He’d be the perfect replacement for any one of the current West Ham forwards who are out of action due to injury.
