The West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern are in a rather miserable mood right now.
Indeed, though their summer window looked rather promising after some big name arrivals, the Hammers have lost all three games so far and sit bottom of the Premier League table.
So, at least reports from the Sun have helped take their minds off of Slaven Bilic’s struggles. They claim the Irons are poised to sell outcast forward Diafra Sakho to Ligue 1 side Rennes for around £9m.
Les Rouges et Noirs are flush with cash after receiving part of the huge fee that saw Ousmane Dembele head to Barcelona and Sakho is understood to be en route.
It’s a sad end to a West Ham career that started so well, with the African forward falling down the pecking order after a wonderful first season on these shores, in which he notched 12 times upon his arrival in 2014 from Metz.
With Javier Hernandez, Andy Caroll and Andre Ayew all able to operate centrally, making a profit on Sakho is very good business indeed.
Shifts more deadwood from the wage bill and perhaps West Ham now have some wriggle room to bring in some late additions.
