It’s been a wonderful summer for the West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern, who’ve been delighted to watch their club splash the cash on some big name signings.
Indeed, the likes of Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez have seriously strengthened the Hammers’ ranks as they prepare for what is hopefully a better campaign at the London Stadium. So, reports from the Daily Mail have only furthered the excitement amongst our east London locals.
They claim the Irons are preparing to launch a £25m offer for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho as they look to bolster their options in central midfield. Though the likes of Pedro Obiang and Cheickou Kouate offer dynamic qualities in the engine room, the options outside of those two look fairly light.
As much as many of our drinkers hate to admit it, few would doubt the fact that Mark Noble’s performances have dipped of late, so the idea of bringing the Portuguese international in is exciting. He’s understood to have a £39.5m release clause in his deal, though West Ham are said to be hopeful of a deal.
Having been capped over 30 times by the national side, he won Euro 2016 with his country and could give the Hammers some added strength in midfield.
Signing Carvalho would cap off a wonderful summer for the Irons. He’d form a solid base from which to build upon, something Slave Bilic’s side were lacking last term.
£25m isn’t a huge amount of money in the current climate, so he’d certainly be value for money.
