West Ham have been one of the busiest clubs in the Premier League during the summer transfer window.

Manuel Pellegrini has wasted no time revamping the squad after replacing David Moyes in the West Ham dugout. The former Manchester City boss has spent £85m on new players as the Hammers look to challenge for Europe. Pellegrini broke the club’s transfer record to bring Lazio winger, Felipe Anderson, to the London Stadium.

Despite their spending, it seems their transfer business isn’t over just yet. With Manuel Lanzini sidelined for the foreseeable future, and Cheikou Kouyate expected to leave the club, another centre midfielder could be signed. Reports suggest West Ham are interested in Barcelona midfielder – Rafinha Alcantara.

Valued at £25.2m by Transfermarkt, the Brazilian spent half of last season on loan with Inter Milan following Philippe Coutinho’s arrival from Liverpool. Rafinha was a key player for the Italian side, making 15 appearances, scoring two goals and registering five assists. Inter wanted to make his stay permanent, but Rafinha expects to be elsewhere at the end of the transfer window; he would be an excellent signing for West Ham.

A technically gifted midfielder, Rafinha is comfortable in a number ten or a number eight role. He can also play on the left making him a useful option to have. He would fit right into Pellegrini’s attacking style of play and add some much-needed depth in attacking midfield.

Barcelona would likely be interested in a loan offer that could make the deal possible given West Ham’s extravagant expenditure in the window so far. A loan move with the option to buy makes perfect sense for both parties.
