The move to the London Stadium hasn’t entirely been a happy one for the West Ham supporting locals in the Transfer Tavern just yet.
While, clearly, it is still early on in the campaign, it has largely been a stuttering start to the season for the East London outfit as they embark on their new era.
Part of the reason the Hammers have failed to hit the nail on the head often enough this term has been the continued absence of playmaker French playmaker Dimitri Payet.
The 29-year-old has struggled for fitness since the end of the European Championships and the Irons’ lack of ingenuity has been lamented by the locals propping up the bar this evening.
However, it could have been worse. Far worse.
According to French outlet BuzzSport, Real Madrid WERE interested in a move for the Les Blues ace over the course of the summer.
That equates to around £92.9m, which would have put him in the same bracket as international teammate Paul Pogba.
The mere notion of his leaving has sent the Hammers in tonight into a state of frenzy, with many thanking the high heavens Los Blancos opted against making a move.
How crucial is Payet to West Ham this season? Let us know below…
