Report: Talks underway with pacy defender as Pellegrini eyes West Ham rebuild

West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping to make a number of additions this summer as they look to strengthen their side and achieve their ambitious targets.

The Hammers appointed Manuel Pellegrini to take over from David Moyes at the London Stadium last month, and the locals will be hoping that the former Premier League winner can use his influence to rebuild a team that finished 13th in the division this term.

And, according to a report in The Daily Mail, West Ham have already been making moves in the transfer window over a possible deal with Toulouse for Issa Diop.

It is believed talks have already started about a £26 million for the defender, with payments being made over the course of three years.

The 21-year-old centre-back is thought to be keen on a move to London and the Irons will feel that they are in the lead for the race to bring the French defender, amid interest from the likes of Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.

And were they to indeed strike a deal with the young defender, it would represent quite a coup for Pellegrini and the club ahead of the 2018/19 season.

Landlord’s Verdict: Diop could turn out to be a great buy for the Hammers this summer, as he could look to build a partnership with Declan Rice at the back for many years to come.

The defender is quick, can be very good when the ball is in the air, and is confident with the ball at his feet, and as such would provide Pellegrini’s side with some much-needed strength in the defensive ranks.
