West Ham have not enjoyed the start to the season they would have hoped for and now they have to quickly amend their mini-crisis before it’s too late.
Many dubbed Manuel Pellegrini’s side as a team that would do very well this season and push on from their extremely disappointing 13th place finish from last season. However so far this season, they have done nothing to suggest that dream could come true and in fact if they don’t pick up points fast, the Hammers could be heading for another bad season.
After a few games though, it isn’t time to panic just yet but if you’re Andy Carroll, then you certainly would be. This is because whilst he is sat on the sideline injured, West Ham have gone and recruited Lucas Perez in his absence, a player that could really limit his chances in claret and blue.
29-year-old Carroll is a threat to any team on his day but too often he is injured, meaning the Hammers simply can’t rely on him anymore. When fit, it’s without a doubt that physically he is one of the more dangerous players in the league and he could be a prolific goalscorer for West Ham but the injuries have continued ever since he made his permanent switch to London in 2013.
The £9 million-rated forward has now been replaced by a former Arsenal man who looked extremely promising for the Gunners but was never entrusted to play a lot and so when Unai Emery came in, he decided to sell him.
This could be a brilliant move from West Ham and one that on paper leaves them with great attacking options capable of hurting any team but for Andy Carroll, his journey in claret and blue will soon surely come to an end.
