West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern will have been delighted to have watched their side earn a point during their match with Chelsea, however, a number of the locals spotted a rumoured transfer target in attendance.
The Hammers look set to seal their place in the Premier League next season after picking up the vital point against their London rivals, however, the appearance of Tom Cairney in the crowd had got a number of Irons interested.
The Fulham skipper was in the stands behind the West Ham dugout, however, according to reports, he was there solely to enjoy the match and not as a guest of the clubs.
The Express claims he was only at Stamford Bridge to watch some football with a friend and former team-mate Matt Smith, with David Moyes stating he did not even know he was in the crowd.
“No idea, was he?” he told the Express.
“If he was then it certainly wasn’t a ticket from us.”
Locals would have been hoping Cairney’s appearance would be a positive sign as they had an attempt to sign the Scotland international in the winter blocked, despite him signing a new long-term deal with the Cottagers.
As you can imagine, our resident Irons aren’t exactly delighted about the report, with many of them hoping they’d see Cairney arrive in the summer after impressing for Fulham over the past 18 months or so.
West Ham fans in the Tavern will be urging the club to go back to Fulham with an offer in the summer for their skipper after he has continuously produced impressive performances in the Championship. The midfielder would definitely add to their side and would go on to become a key man for the Hammers.
