Sunderland slapped with £12m valuation for West Ham stalwart, Allardyce wary of hefty sum

West Ham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are preparing to wave goodbye to one of their own as Sunderland close in on the defender.

According to MailOnline, Sam Allardyce is interested in bringing James Tomkins to the Stadium of Light and the Hammers have made it clear he is only available for £12m.

The vastly experienced 27-year-old is a fan favourite after coming through the ranks in East London, eventually progressing to the club’s first-team.

He signed a new five-year deal last summer which is driving his value up and he still has plenty of years to offer to the Premier League.

Although he was not at the forefront of Slaven Bilic’s plans last season, the former England under-21 international went on to make 25 appearances last season for the Hammers.

With The Irons moving into the Olympic Stadium and Europa League football arriving next season, their Croatian is under pressure to consistently improve the first 11, which may well force him to flog valuable assets like Tomkins who are no longer starters in the first team.

West Ham fans. Would you be willing to sell James Tomkins for £12 million? Let us know your thoughts below.
