West Ham are an enigma this season. Most fans up and down the country were expecting big things from the Hammers this season considering how impressive they looked during the last one.

Their signings were impeccable ranging from the wily and clever Manuel Lanzini to their incredible talisman, Dimitri Payet.

Fast forward twelve months though and it's all turned sour in East London.

Their move to the Olympic Stadium hasn't gone as planned with frequent crowd troubles and a noticeable drop in atmosphere.

On the pitch, the players appear to be reeling too.

They were linked with every striker under the sun in the summer and ended up spending £20m on Andre Ayew who got injured in their first game.

It's not just at the top end of the field where they're struggling, though.

The back four and goalkeeper have had nightmarish starts to the season, losing 4-2 in consecutive weeks to West Brom and Watford and whilst they've seen some improvements in recent week, there's still a lot more to do before they can reach the next level.

The punters here in the Tavern have outlined two possible options in the January transfer window that might help Bilic out.

In order to fix their defensive woes, the punters believe a Sunderland centre-half might help!

It might seem mental but hear them out!

In January of last season, Sam Allardyce purchased the centre-back from Lorient for an undisclosed fee and he went on to help the Black Cats stave off relegation, scoring in two crunch matches against Manchester United and Everton.

In fact, he netted a brace against the Toffees which sealed Sunderland's place in the Premier League and almost took the net off in the process!

As a result of his good form he has been linked with moves away from the bottom club in the Premier League, one of which is West Ham.

The Hammers could definitely do with his strength and defensive presence to help out Winston Reid and try and settle the back four once again.

As mentioned before, the Hammers made an exceptional amount of bids this summer for strikers in order to help make use of the creative genius that West Ham possess.

At the conclusion of the transfer window, the Hammers ended up signing Andre Ayew for £20m from Swansea as well as Juventus striker Simone Zaza.

However, Bilic has been unconvinced by the Italian and is already considering offloading him for another striker from Serie A.

According to The Express, West Ham are looking to offer a cash + trade deal for the Napoli forward.

He has only netted twice in the league this season but they still hope he can perform to a better level than Zaza has produced so far.
