Manchester United’s recent Europa League double-header with Saint-Etienne attracted a curious number of West Ham supporters here in the Transfer Tavern and now we know just why those in claret and blue were glued to the screen: Kevin Malcuit.
The Les Verts right-back was impressive across both games vs. the Red Devils, with his showings so good that reports from So Foot have even suggested that Jose Mourinho has instructed his scouts to assess the defender, but it seems West Ham are eager to get in ahead of their rivals for the player.
Indeed, Sky Sports are reporting that the Irons are ‘expecting’ to snap up the 25-year-old this summer in a deal worth £10m, solving their issues on the right side of the backline.
The same report claims that the Londoners tried to sign Malcuit during the January window – a claim backed up by France Football (below and translated by Sport Witness) who stated that two offers from the Irons were rejected during the winter – but the Ligue 1 side did not want to lose him at a crucial stage of the campaign.
However, it’s understood that they may well change their stance at the end of 2016/17 and West Ham are seemingly ready to pay £10m for the star, who has attempted the second highest number of take-ons of any defender in the French top tier this season.
