West Ham supporters have been pretty upbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team secure a deserved 1-1 draw from their trip to defending Premier League champions Chelsea on Sunday.
David Moyes’ men went into their clash with the West London outfit off the back of a commanding 3-0 win over Southampton in their previous league outing, yet they had lost each of their last three away games prior to Sunday’s visit to Stamford Bridge. And another defeat looked to be in the offing when Cesar Azpilicueta gave the Blues a first half lead, only for Javier Hernandez to deservedly draw the Hammers level 17 minutes from time to clinch a vital point in their battle to stave off Premier League relegation.
Subsequently, there have been many delighted West Ham fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are growing in confidence that their club can indeed avoid the drop this term, what with Moyes’ side six points clear of danger with six games to go.
Yet some of our resident Hammers supporters are already looking ahead to the summer and what business their side may seek to conduct, with many of the opinion that £13.5 million-rated Manchester City flop Eliaquim Mangala (as per Transfermarkt) should reignite his Premier League career in East London.
Ultimately, the 27-year-old has endured a testing time at the Etihad Stadium since his move from Porto back in 2014, to the point that he was shipped out on loan to Valencia last season and indeed Everton in the second half of this campaign.
And those temporary spells away from Eastlands have come as a result of several unconvincing displays at the heart of the City backline, although he was used often earlier in the term following injuries to Vincent Kompany and John Stones.
However, it has been evident for a while now that Mangala simply isn’t good enough for Pep Guardiola’s Man City, and his spell at Everton hasn’t gone to plan either given he suffered a knee problem in just his second start for Allardyce’s side.
Nonetheless, the France international may be in need of a fresh start over the summer, and West Ham could give him.
Jose Fonte’s departure to the Chinese Super League back in January has left Moyes slightly light on central defensive options, and with James Collins not getting any younger and out of contract in the summer (as per Transfermarkt), the Hammers chief may well be on the lookout for reinforcements during the close season.
And while Mangala hasn’t convinced greatly during his time in England, there have been flashes of brilliance since his move to City in 2014, and a regular stream of games, which he hasn’t had for many years, could well get the best out of him once again.
As such, the Frenchman should seek to reignite his Premier League career by moving to West Ham this summer.
