The West Ham fans over at the bar are arguing amongst themselves over what went on wrong on the opening day.
The Hammers were truly battered by Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United, who put four past them without reply on Sunday.
And the London Stadium faithful are convinced the defeat is more than just a slow start.
Slaven Bilic is now preparing his side for a trip to Southampton on Saturday, but by the time the sides meet, the Croat could have William Carvalho to call upon.
BBC Sport claim that the Hammers are closing in on a deal for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder, who has been heavily linked with a move to a top six side in recent seasons.
The 25-year-old is an experienced international having scored one goal in 37 international appearances Portugal.
With the ability to snuff out an attack and by possessing an array of passing talent, Carvalho is capable of operating strictly as a defensive midfielder or as deep lying playmaker.
He played 31 of Sporting’s 38 Primeira Liga games last season, scoring two and assisting three.
The Hammers are suggested to have had an initial bid of £36m rejected by the Portuguese side, who are demanding £40m for the midfielder.
After being overwhelmed by Manchester United on the weekend, it’s no surprise that Slaven Bilic wants Carvalho to prop up his midfield. He would be just what they need to bridge the gap to Everton and the top six.
