West Ham’s season has not been the success many Hammers here in the Transfer Tavern were hoping for before a ball was kicked.
Having challenged for a top-four finish in 2015/16, quite a few Irons supporters believed that a sustained run in the Europa League and another push for a spot in the top quartet was possible, but elimination from continental competition at the qualification stage, relegation worries by the winter period, a less than successful transition to the London Stadium and Dimitri Payet’s exit are a handful of happenings to irk the east Londoners’ fanbase.
Saturday’s loss to Leicester was the club’s third league defeat on the spin and fifth match without a victory, which has cause yet more disappointment.
Responding to a tweet from a fan who watched the game, co-owner David Gold said he was “hoping” his side would equalise at 3-2…
With only one minute to go 2-3 down I was hoping to equalise. John I’m a realist. dg https://t.co/cDg1wjx1Z7

Nothing to see here, right? Well, plenty of Hammers were very annoyed with Gold for a lack of ambition, and some of the responses to his words were pretty strong…
@davidgold And beating a team who hasn’t won away all season is realistic, why were we 2-0 down after 6 minutes?
— JamieHall (@WhufcJamie) March 20, 2017
@davidgold We are realists too. Stadium a nightmare as were summer transfers. Manager & captain taking the flack. Owners and Brady fault.

@davidgold SO YOU STILL THINK TOP 8 this season mr dg
— ian (@ianlatimer80s) March 20, 2017
@davidgold David our expectations exceed reality, we are an average PL team with a distinct lack of pace and not a decent striker 4 years
— Andy Bugg (@andybuggwhu) March 20, 2017
@davidgold you are not a realist when it comes to acknowledging how far ye can take the club though #timetosellup
— Alan Eaton (@alaneaton11) March 20, 2017
@davidgold our record over the last 2 seasons at conceding early goals is one of the worse in the league. Not learning much r we
— Darren (@daz1992) March 20, 2017
@davidgold sorry???? Realist? We shouldnt be chasing 2 goal deficits against bottom half teams at home if we’re to progress.
— SPD B&A (@SteveDoidge) March 20, 2017
@davidgold agree dg what happened is gone live for the present
— Paul Reynolds (@ar13par) March 20, 2017
@davidgold we have no god given right to win any game
