West Ham are expected to bring plenty of new faces to the London Stadium now the January transfer window is officially open.

The Hammers strengthened heavily in the summer to back new manager Manuel Pellegrini and the Chilean has made a decent start to life with the Irons. Many members of the squad have adapted brilliantly to the former Manchester City’s manager’s methods with Felipe Anderson proving to be one of the signings of the season so far.

West Ham have already added Samir Nasri to their squad – the Frenchman penned a short-term contract with the club after proving his fitness in recent weeks. To continue their push for a European finish, the Hammers should look to their London rivals Fulham for their next signing.

The Hammers had a bid rejected last summer but should return to land Scotland international – Tom Cairney. Valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, the midfielder was targeted during David Moyes’ spell as manager but opted to stay at Craven Cottage. Cairney was a key player under Slavisa Jokanovic, scoring the winning goal in the play-off final against Aston Villa to send the Cottagers into the Premier League.

The 27-year-old has so far failed to replicate his excellent Championship form in the higher division. Indeed, the entire Fulham squad have failed to meet expectations this season and Claudio Ranieri’s men are currently stuck in the Premier League relegation zone. West Ham should offer the Scottish midfielder the chance to jump ship with a return to England’s second division looking increasingly likely. Indeed, pairing him up with the excellent Robert Snodgrass could be an excellent idea, considering his form this season.

Cairney netted six goals and registered five assists last season, highlighting the attacking threat he poses when on-form. In a squad of West Ham’s quality, his creative ability would be elevated. Alongside Nasri and Anderson – West Ham fans could find a new hero.
