Transfer comments should worry West Ham fans over talented midfielder

Our resident West Ham United supporters in the Transfer Tavern are concerned at the latest transfer news surrounding Reece Oxford.

According to the London Evening Standard, Borussia Monchengladbach’s sporting director, Max Eberl (who was speaking to, has reiterated his desire to keep Reece Oxford with the German club beyond the duration of his loan.

“Reece is very happy here and we’re very happy that he’s got another half-season with us,” Eberl told

“There is a third party, though, West Ham, who have a contract with Reece. Of course, we accept that. Hope springs eternal.”

The Englishman is currently in the middle of his second loan spell with the Bundesliga team, and despite returning to West Ham United, it is clear that the versatile player is keen to stay in Germany. Though he’s a hugely talented player, he’s had to wait for his chance in east London and the thought of first-team football may be tempting.

Despite having only made four appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach, it is believed that the player is content with life in Germany, and he’s eager to prolong his stay with the Bundesliga club.

Landlord’s verdict

To lose a player of Oxford’s class and potential will be highly damaging to the Irons. As a product of their academy, they’ll be hopeful that the Englishman will stay on their books and enjoy a fruitful career in London.
