Wolves have had solid starts to the season as they look to fight it out in England’s top league while West Ham have not.
The Portuguese revolution has continued at Wolves as Nuno Espirito Santo has brought in Joao Moutinho, Ruben Vinagre and Rui Patricio to the Premier League. After their promotion-winning campaign Wolves have continued their form and have already held Manchester City to a draw.
West Ham unlike Fulham haven’t had a great start to the season and currently sit bottom of the league. Similar to Wolves, West Ham splashed the cash this season as they bought a raft of new players this summer one of whom was former Lukasz Fabianski.
With both being goalkeepers, let’s compare the two…
Following Swansea City’s relegation, West Ham swooped in to sign their experienced Polish international goalkeeper. Despite the Swans poor season, Fabianski was one of the club’s better players.
Signed for just £7.2 million, the former Arsenal man has become the club’s starter ahead of Adrian. Moreover, despite the club’s poor start to the season, Fabianski has been one of the few players to actually perform to his level along with Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnautovic.
The season isn’t going to get much easier for West Ham going forward as they face Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United in their next six games. It’s unsure how long it will take for the Hammers style of play under Pellegrini but Fabianski will continue to perform and should be a solid goalie.
For the price West Ham got him for, it looks like they’ve made a steal.

After spending 12 years at Sporting Lisbon, Rui Patricio made the move to Wolves after terminating his contract with Sporting following due to the violence from the supporters.
Joining on a free transfer, Patricio joined the Portuguese revolution at Wolves and has been outstanding for Wolves so far this season. Valued at £14.4 million, getting the 30-year-old on a free was a superb piece of business. Three years younger than Fabianski, Rui Patricio still has plenty left in the tank for his career and could be key in keeping Wolves in the Premier League this season.
For a promoted team, it’s essential that they have a goalscorer but also a quality goalkeeper who can keep them in games. As the season draws on, we’ll probably start to see his value show even more but as it stands, Wolves have pulled off a superb signing. A goalkeeper with his experience of playing at the top level, is a superb piece of business.
TT Grade: B+
Both goalkeepers are going to be solid players for their respective clubs this season. While West Ham are struggling at the moment, Fabianski has been a solid player this season and is going to be vital over the next month or two.
Patricio likewise is a superb player. Experienced and underrated, Patricio has already shown how good he is and like Fabianski, his experience is going to be vital for the Midlands side this season.
Considering his fee, experience and overall impact, Patricio wins this one although it was a very tight call.
