There were concerns for Everton in their draw against Everton, such as Andre Gomes’ injury and the lack of a goal.
However, there were positives for the men in blue, with the main one being their centre-back pairing of Michael Keane and Yerry Mina.
While the Englishman pipped Mina to get Man of the Match on WhoScored, the Colombian certainly played his part.
Mina was brilliant in dealing with any threat Everton faced from long balls and crosses, as he won three of his four aerial duels.
He also successfully made both of the tackles he attempted, as well as five clearances and three interceptions throughout the game.
The Colombian also completed 93% of the 71 passes he attempted during the match and had 8.8% of the entire possession, second only to Keane – this shows just how much the Evertonians saw of the ball at the back and how integral the centre-backs are to the team’s play.
It is vital for Everton’s fortunes this campaign that both Mina and Keane stay fit and on form for the entire season, as their only back-ups at this stage are Mason Holgate and Lewis Gibson.
The fact The Toffees didn’t score will be helped by the incoming Alex Iwobi and Moise Kean – in terms of giving an indication of this season’s fortunes, it was arguably more important to see a good defensive display, which is exactly what Mina and the rest of the backline provided.
