War of words – West Ham boss retaliates to rival boss’ comments

Shots. Fired. Slaven Bilic and Jaap Stam are two men you wouldn’t want to cross and we imagine they would take some separating if it came to blows – something our landlord is used to doing here at the Transfer Tavern when fans have had a few too many pints on a Saturday night!

And his services may be required soon, with a war of words having broken out between the duo this week.

It all started with Stam hinting that Reading’s training is more intense than the Hammers’ when talking about Reece Oxford – who is on loan in Berkshire from east London – stating that the youngster was “surprised at the level of intensity” he was now working in.

And it seems that Bilic was listening and he’s not happy at what he heard.

Speaking in his pre-weekend press conference, the Croatian said:

“I have not heard about it,” he is quoted by Football.London.

“We are training very intensely. Maybe with Recce and his change of club they train differently but the only thing I think is that Reece wasn’t fit enough.

“He signed for Reading after a long injury to his ankle so maybe in the beginning he wasn’t in the best shape.

“That was ages ago though, he will have had enough time to get ready.”

Oxford is seen as one of West ham and England’s most talented young footballers, and the 18-year-old will surely be hoping that his Reading spell will gain him a route into the Irons’ first XI.

Reece Oxford will be in West Ham’s first Xi next season – agree?
