When West Ham announced the signing of Andriy Yarmolenko last season, a lot of neutral supporters were surprised with what the Irons had managed to pull off.

The Ukrainian international had formed a reputation for himself at Dynamo Kyiv as one of the most prolific players in Eastern Europe this decade, ill-fated move to Borussia Dortmund.

A move to east London followed after just one lacklustre season in the Bundesliga after the attacker scoring twice and assisting once for the Hammers in nine league games, but then the injury came.

An ACL injury picked up against Tottenham ruled the Ukrainian out for the rest of the season, a cruel fate that left many Hammers fans devastated. But as football.london report, Yarmolenko is set to return for the start of the 2019/20 league season, and it could be the year the 29-year-old announces himself to England.

Valued at £18 million on Transfermarkt, the winger had to wait a while before getting his first Premier League start last season, but two goals against Everton not only handed West Ham their first points of the season but also ensured Yarmolenko that he would never be back on the bench again as the Hammers went on to draw with Chelsea and then beat Manchester United, with the Ukrainian in the starting XI for both games.

Seven points from nine against three of the Premier League’s best is an impressive haul for a club like West Ham, and you can realistically boil it down to Manuel Pellegrini finally giving Yarmolenko the nod in the starting XI given his three goal involvements over the three games, and if the Chilean boss gives the winger the green light to start straight from the get-go next season, the Hammers will have a secret weapon that can cause havoc in the Premier League.

West Ham fans, will Yarmolenko be prolific next season? Let us know!
