West Ham fans this season have found their midfield to be the main cause of their problems and with the owners failing to deliver on a promised centre-midfielder again this January, the Hammers need to remain faithful in their team to steer them away from the relegation battle.
After weeks of talk linking West Ham with elite talents such as William Carvalho and Leander Dendoncker, again, Hammers were filled with disappointment as they failed to bring these players into the London Stadium. With Pedro Obiang injured for the foreseeable future, West Ham have found themselves with only Mark Noble, Cheikhou Kouyate and Joao Mario to pick from to play in the middle.
If the claret and blue side can fight off relegation and remain in the top flight next season, a dominant, enforcing midfielder the Hammers should look at is Porto’s Danilo Pereira – rated at £21.6 million on Transfermarkt. The 26-year-old has been ever-present in the Portuguese side’s midfield and in 29 total appearances already this season, he has managed four goals and three assists. Pereira has featured largely in Porto’s Champions League campaign and has an average passing success rate at 86.5% this season. The Porto man is an extremely capable ball-playing midfielder and the 6″2 26-year-old is a governing force in the middle which makes him very hard to get past, giving the Irons another midfield general at last.
West Ham are desperately calling out for a player that is proficient in protecting their defence so that more pressure can be relieved of their back-line. Pereira is just reaching his full potential so an investment now could see the Portugal international remain the focal point to their midfield for years to come.
