With the summer transfer window now open for business, it is likely that West Ham are going to be one of the busiest sides in the market.

The Hammers are in need of new players as well as selling some figures off in order to make room for arrivals and free up room in the wage bill as well as increase transfer funds, and Manuel Pellegrini is likely to strengthen in every area of the squad.

The defence needs improving, a new midfielder would be handy and it is likely the entire attacking line will be replaced this summer, and one position, in particular, that could do with a makeover is right-back.

Pablo Zabaleta has proven to be a solid option but nothing too spectacular whereas Ryan Fredericks’ inconsistency has made him a risky pick in the starting XI, but according to recent reports, the Hammers could soon have a solution.

According to the Express, West Ham are interested in Benfica right-back Andre Almeida, who reportedly only has an asking price of £8 million, and for the Hammers, this could be a brilliant bit of business.

The 28-year-old fullback has been a starter for the Portuguese giants for the good part of five seasons and is currently coming off the back of a fifth Primeira Liga title with the club, and with two goals and 12 assists this campaign, Almeida is heading into the primes years of his career, which make the defender a good short-term fix for West Ham.

In Almeida, Manuel Pellegrini will be signing a player who will be at the top of his game for the next season or two, and if the club are able to sign a younger right-back in 2020, they will have the privilege of being able to learn under someone who knows the position like the back of his hands.

West Ham have been criticised in recent years for signing older players, but in Almeida, the defender could be the rare exception that proves to be a hit in east London and provide the tools necessary for his successor to thrive in the position.

West Ham fans, would Almeida be a good short-term fix for the club? Let us know!
