It certainly would not be a surprise to see West Ham United be busy in the transfer window this summer.

A rather encouraging start to life under the Manuel Pellegrini era will have filled the Hammers' faithful with some lofty ambitions and expectations as they head into the second season under the Chilean's guidance.

However, if Pellegrini is to build on those solid starts, he is going to need to have money available to him to make some necessary additions.

The right-back position is an area of the field the London Stadium outfit could look to strengthen, with the likes of Pablo Zabaleta and Ryan Fredericks not quite filling the part.

The Argentine is simply too old to remain an effective and regular member of the first-team, whilst Fredericks has looked out of his depth on occasions - although, with some additional top-flight football under his belt, he could be one to keep an eye on.

However, if the rumours surrounding a move for Andre Almeida have any truth to them, West Ham should seriously think about acting upon them.

According to the Daily Express, the Hammers are thought to be keen on the versatile Benfica right-back; as are Wolverhampton Wanderers (no surprise there) and Everton.

Almeida, who can play on either flank as a defender or as a holding midfielder, has been key in helping his side win the Primeira Liga title this season with his attacking ability.

The 28-year-old is more than capable of bombing down the wings and whipping crosses into the box with pin-point accuracy, having provided his team-mates with 11 assists this season as well as two goals.

The Portugal international would not only offer Pellegrini options at right-back though, as he could offer the Chilean with the option of playing him on the left instead of Aaron Cresswell or Arthur Masuaku; both of whom have not had the best of campaigns either.

Thus, with other Premier League sides sniffing around as well, West Ham must look to get a deal done before it's too late.
