West Ham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern this afternoon have been enjoying the sun and to make it better, news that their side are preparing to pip Spanish champions, Barcelona to a summer signing.

Spanish newspaper, Sport (via Sport Witness) are reporting that the Hammers have made a formal approach for Spanish striker, Lucas Perez.

The 27-year-old is currently plying his trade for Deportivo La Coruna, and has been linked with a move to Barcelona recently, however he has faced a long wait on a move to the Catalan giants, who see him as a cost-effective back up for Messi, Suarez and Neymar.
