West Ham’s recruitment drive has been in full flow this summer.

Eager to put the disappointment of last season behind them, West Ham have been extremely busy in the transfer market. New boss Manuel Pellegrini has been backed to revamp the squad and has wasted no time in bringing new faces to the London Stadium. The Chilean has added seven new players to his team as he looks to challenge for a European place next season.

His business is not over yet with a defensive midfielder on his shortlist. With Cheikou Kouyate on his way out, the Hammers need someone to add balance in the engine room. Also in the back of his mind will be finding a replacement for Manuel Lanzini who could miss the entire season through injury.

The solution to his problem could be former Newcastle playmaker – Hatem Ben Arfa. Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the Frenchman is out of contract after being released by Paris St Germain. He failed to make a single appearance for the Parisiens last year and could be set to move back to the Premier League according to reports.

Ben Arfa doesn’t have the best reputation in England from his time with Newcastle and Hull. Often described as lazy, there is no doubt about his ability as a footballer. During his time with Nice, the 31-year-old netted an incredible 17 goals and picked up six assists which earned him a move to PSG. Pellegrini could be the man to help him rediscover the form that made him one of the best playmakers in France.

With Lanzini sidelined, Ben Arfa could be the perfect replacement.
