West Ham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are huddled around the dartboard trying to work out if they’ve either had a few too many pints, or if the reports linking them with a move for German star Mario Gomez are actually real.
According to CNN Turk, Slaven Bilic & Co. have approached Fiorentina about the possibility of signing the 30-year-old, whose scintillating form whilst on loan at Besiktas last season meant that he forced his way back into the fold for the German side this summer.
Gomez scored 28 goals for the Turkish side last season and has netted twice so far at the Euros this summer, profiting from Mesut Ozil’s creativity, as he has made the no. 9 role his own once again going into the Quarter Final stage.
West Ham will be in the market for another striker as they look set to be beaten to the signing of Belgian striker, Michy Batshuyai, by London rivals, Chelsea.
The former Bayern Munich man is valued at just under £10m by transfermarkt but our astute old Landlord reckons that West Ham could get him for less than that.
West Ham fans, what do you think? Can Gomez still cut it at the top level? Is he the missing link in you front line? Let us know in the comments below…
