West Ham United are interested in signing Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez in the upcoming transfer window and according to FC Inter News they have already been in contact with his agent.
The 31-year-old is currently plying his trade on loan at Inter Milan, but is still contracted to Manchester United.
According to the report, the Hammers have initiated talks with Sanchez’s agent Fernando Felicevich and they have asked him for information ahead of a potential move.
As already mentioned, the ex-Arsenal man is currently on loan in Italy but it is suggested that Inter do not plan on extending his stay at the club beyond his current spell.
That means that he will return to Old Trafford at the end of the current campaign, but the report adds that the Red Devils also don’t really want the 132-time Chile international and therefore he could find himself on the move once again.
Whether a move to West Ham is actually possible remains to be seen, but it could be tricky given his huge wages. Indeed, Sport Witness suggests that Sanchez is currently pocketing a whopping €12m a year.
There is no doubting that Sanchez has been a quality player during his career. After all, this is someone who has netted 162 goals and provided 116 assists in total for the clubs he has represented, including 80 strikes in 166 appearances for Arsenal (Transfermarkt).
He has also played for Barcelona in the past and worked under Pep Guardiola, who is a big fan of the Chilean. Indeed, he is previously quoted as saying that the forward is “incredible,” (The Sun) and a “class player,” (Daily Mail).
However, he has been a shadow of his former self of late and his form over recent seasons is certainly a concern. During his time at Manchester United he managed to score just five goals in 45 appearances, whilst at Inter he only has one goal and three assists in 15 appearances (Transfermarkt).
With that in mind and taking into account his extremely high wages, this would be a huge gamble for West Ham and probably a risk that isn’t worth taking.
