West Ham United have begun talks about potentially signing Paris Saint Germain left-back Layvin Kurzawa, that is according to a report from Foot Mercato.
Should West Ham sign Layvin Kurzawa?
They could face competition for his signature however, with Tottenham Hotspur also reportedly in the running for the 27-year-old.
According to the report, PSG are keen to offload Kurzawa in January as his contract is set to expire in the summer (Transfermarkt).
He is not a regular under Thomas Tuchel, starting just five times in Ligue 1 (Transfermarkt) with Juan Bernat firmly ahead of him in the pecking order.
However, it is thought that Kurzawa may instead choose to move on in the summer and given that he can sign a pre-contract with clubs in Europe from January it is alleged that his representatives have already begun talks with the Hammers, Tottenham and Manchester United.
Left-back has been something of a problem position for West Ham of late. This season alone they have tried and dropped both Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku in that position, which shows that Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t fully trust either.
Signing Kurzawa, a man with 13 caps for France (Transfermarkt) and experience at a Champions League club in PSG, on a free transfer would surely, therefore, be an excellent piece of business for them.
If he does move to east London, then it would likely mean the end of the road for Masuaku at the club.
He is currently further down the pecking order than Cresswell having not started any of their last eight Premier League outings (Transfermarkt).
When he did get some game time, a substitute appearance against Arsenal, he didn’t do well at all and was slammed by plenty of Hammers fans, with one even describing him as the “worst footballer” they had ever seen.
So they may well look to sign Kurzawa as first choice, have Cresswell as the back-up option and move Masuaku on.
