West Ham are reported to be interested in current West Brom loanee Mattheus Pereira, according to Football Insider.
The Brazilian midfielder arrived at the Baggies in the summer on a loan move from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon and has had a great campaign so far, helping the side the currently sit second with his six goals and 16 assists, per Transfermarkt.
Indeed, the Hammers have seemingly been impressed by this, and are hoping to keep tabs on the player, who reportedly has a clause in his deal where West Brom could buy him for £8 million if they were promoted. Currently helping former Irons chief Slaven Bilic look to win promotion from the Championship, he’s believed to be a major target for those in East London.
Interestingly, he’s managed on average 2.5 key passes per game, per Whoscored and when you compare that with current Hammers midfielder Manuel Lanzini’s best season at the club back in 2016/17, the Brazilian is ahead of the Argentinian who only averaged 1.5 per game.
In fact, no one in their squad manages near that figure while only Michail Antonio averages more shots per game than he does, 2.3 to 2.2.
Currently, West Ham have only scored 35 goals in the league and, where some may lay the blame on their striker Sebastien Haller, who has only scored seven goals, the team also needs a creative aspect as the stats above show. Furthermore, Haller proved last season in the Bundesliga that he can be prolific, so arming him with the likes of the man in question may be a good idea.
Looking for a creative player who can start the attacks seems like a better idea than trying to sign another striker given the aforementioned stats then perhaps it would help unleash the likes of Haller.
West Ham fans, would Pereira be a good signing? Comment below!
