It’s been a busy few days in regards to West Ham as Marko Arnautovic looks set to leave the club according to the Guardian, and now news has dropped of a potential incoming at the club
According to the Mirror, the Hammers are to make a fresh bid for West Brom striker Salomon Rondon after the club missed out on Celta Vigo star Maxi Gomez, who is likely to join Valencia per the report.
West Ham have already had a bid rejected for Rondon this summer rumoured to be £10 million plus players believed to be Sam Byram and Jordan Hugill, with this new offer said to be bumped up to £12 million and bonuses. Indeed, The Express and Star report that the Baggies striker has a release clause of £16.5 million.
With Arnautovic seemingly on the way out and Gomez lost to the hands of Valencia, a move for Rondon is a good alternative for the Hammers, who have been interested in the striker for quite some time this summer with the aforementioned rejected bid, and the Hammers would be getting an ideal attacker.
Last season saw the Venezuelan international hit 11 goals and register seven assists for a Newcastle side that lacked creativity, with Matt Ritchie creating the most ‘big chances’ with 8 for the Toon Army, whilst Felipe Anderson for West Ham created 10 as per stats from the Premier League’s official website.
Indeed, playing for a side with more creativity will be a bonus for Rondon, who could also be joining a squad who are in the midst of departures as Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez have already departed. With Arnautovic seemingly on his way too, this means the former Zenit striker would be joining the east London side with a bit of pressure on his shoulders.
No striker has scored 15 goals or more for West Ham since Carlton Cole in the 2011/12 Championship season, and although this is something Rondon has failed to do during his time in the Premier League, there does appear to be more points of service in the team of his apparent suitors.
Still, playing alongside the likes of Anderson and new signing Pablo Fornals, who created the third most chances in the Europa League last season with 26 as per WhoScored, Rondon could have the service required to give the Irons a focal point in attack at last.
West Ham fans, will Rondon hit 15+ goals next season? Let us know!
