West Ham could seriously regret not signing Joao Felix in the future

West Ham are a completely new team under Manuel Pellegrini and they will take time to gel together.

Some automatically presume that spending over £100 million will instantly transform West Ham from relegation battlers to top six contenders but that thought couldn’t be further from the truth. The Hammers have undoubtedly recruited some great players on paper and if all goes well, the London Stadium is set to be one happy place this season.

One possible regret from their transfer spending though is that they didn’t sign Joao Felix, (who is valued at £1.8 million on Transfermarkt) a Portuguese youngster they were linked with.

This transfer was one brought to the attention of West Ham fans just before the window ended but before they could get too excited, Felix decided to stay with Benfica. In a few years, it is certainly conceivable to think that Joao Felix could be in the Portuguese national team, or worse still for West Ham, one of the best young talents in football. Judging by his early form for Benfica, those could be very real possibilities.

The 18-year-old is considered hot property and his performances from last season show exactly why. After scoring and providing 5 goals and 5 assists last season, (including a vital equaliser against Manchester United for their youth team) Felix is really starting to prove what a star he could turn out to be for Benfica and his country.

West Ham really could have tried harder to secure his signature and considering he could really be a good player in the future, it is a wonder as to why West Ham didn’t go through with this deal.
