Manuel Pellegrini has done a steady job at West Ham United since being appointed as the manager.
It hasn’t been remarkable by any stretch of the imagination, however, the Chilean has brought an attractive style of play to the London Stadium and has made the Hammers a force to be reckoned with despite his early troubles.
In recent years, the Irons have had to keep looking over their shoulder regarding the possibility of relegation, but European football could have been on the cards this season if the club could have been more consistent with their performances – that’s something Pellegrini can look to work on this summer.
Provided he is still at West Ham.
According to a report by Mundo Deportivo this weekend, Pellegrini’s future at the Hammers is thought to be far from clear, which is having a knock-on effect regarding their interest in Alaves’ Guillermo Maripan.
The Spanish media outlet state that the manager has ‘given his name’ to the West Ham hierarchy, a claim that can be backed up by The Daily Mail who stated he had no intention of leaving the club a few weeks ago.
However, there have been reports in the past (namely by RMC Sport in France) that have suggested his future is in doubt at the club and they could look to replace him with Bruno Genesio.
Whilst Mundo Deportivo may have picked up on that rumour and have decided to continue to carry on that particular narrative remains to be seen, but if there is any truth in the doubts about his future, then West Ham fans should be worried.
Pellegrini has arguably turned the Hammers into an attractive club for players to join; it would have been hard to see the likes of Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko donning the Claret and Blue just a few years ago.
As mentioned, he has brought an exciting style of play to the London Stadium as well and has made watching them a lot easier on the eye than the likes of Slaven Bilic, Sam Allardyce and David Moyes in the past.
Hopefully, it is just a story to drive up the views and one that fans should not take too seriously.
