West Ham eyeing experienced Serie A defender in bid for brighter second half to year

Our West Ham fans here in the Transfer Tavern want to see defensive reinforcements this month and, according to The Evening Standard, they may just get that through Andrea Ranocchia.

The Hammers are not having their best season to date but have shown recent signs that the second half of the campaign will be more fruitful than the first.

The Dimitri Payet situation is out in the open whilst on the pitch the players that do want to play are showing signs of fight and togetherness.

Our landlord believes they do need extra signings to help build some momentum, though, and the potential signing of Ranocchia would be certainly helpful.

The Italian defender has plenty of experience at the highest levels of the game with Inter Milan and so, whilst not guaranteeing success, it suggests that he would be a decent signing.

The Hammers have struggled at the back this season with Slaven Bilic flipping between a back-three and back-four so signing the Inter Milan man might help bring some more consistency defensively.

Certainly, our landlord reckons he’d be a top acquisition.
