West Ham supporters have been pretty downbeat in recent times after seeing their side’s three-match unbeaten run in the Premier League come to an end last weekend.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men went into their encounter with Brighton having picked up seven points from their preceding three games, beating Everton and Manchester United alongside drawing with Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea. Yet the Hammers were unable to keep that fine run of form going at the AMEX Stadium on Friday night, with Glenn Murray’s effort midway through the first half sealing a narrow 1-0 success for the Seagulls, thus condemning West Ham to fifth loss of the season.

Thus, there have been many disappointed Hammers fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have already taken to Twitter to speculate upon who Pellegrini should look to start against Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham next weekend.

Spurs have been resurgent of late in winning their last three Premier League matches to move up to fifth place in the table, and as such will pose a serious test to the Hammers when they visit the London Stadium a week on Saturday.

Yet several West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to call for the reinvigorated Robert Snodgrass to earn a recall to the starting eleven, and such has been his fine start to the season under Pellegrini, alongside Tottenham’s woes defending set pieces, those supporters are absolutely right.

Ultimately, the 31-year-old’s Hammers career looked as good as over following a loan spell at Championship side Aston Villa last season, with the winger failing to produce the goods for the Hammers following his move from Hull City back in January 2017.

However, he has been given an opportunity by new manager Pellegrini, and it’s one the Scotland international has taken in netting twice and laying on three assists in ten appearances in all competitions this term, all of which coming in their run to the last 16 of the Carabao Cup, where they will also face Pochettino’s Spurs.

More importantly, Snodgrass is looking more and more like the player the Hammers thought they signed from the Tigers little over 18 months ago, with the 31-year-old showing confidence down the flanks to get into dangerous positions and produce a cross, alongside a relentless work-ethic to help the team off the ball.

And those traits in particular will be crucial against Tottenham a week on Saturday, with the North Londoners likely to have more of the ball than the Hammers, and thus demanding Pellegrini’s side to be disciplined off the ball, and work hard to stay in shape and win it back.

And when on the ball, Snodgrass can cause the Spurs defence real problems, as Pochettino’s men have looked very vulnerable to set pieces so far this season, and the 31-year-old has the sort of quality from that area of the pitch which can seriously test the Tottenham rearguard.

As such, those West Ham fans calling for £6.3 million-rated Snodgrass (as per Transfermarkt) to start against Spurs are absolutely spot on, as the Scottish winger has the capabilities to really test Pochettino’s side a week on Saturday.
