West Ham fans aren’t impressed by Shelvey links - West Ham

Jonjo Shelvey has been linked (per Claret and Hugh’s sources) with a move to West Ham United, but the club’s supporters don’t want him.

Manuel Pellegrini is supposedly an admirer of the midfielder who is valued at £13.5 million by Transfermarkt, with the club not yet having ruled out a move.

Shelvey may be known for supposed ill-discipline but a look at his statistics for this season on WhoScored paints a different picture.

The six-time England international has only picked up one yellow card in the 16 games he has played, while averaging 1.4 tackles a game. For a player who has accumulated 42 yellow cards and five reds in 245 career appearances, this record could be a sign that he is turning a corner.

Reputations often stick though and this change has not been enough to convince Irons fans about Shelvey, who also grew up as a Hammers supporter.

While Shelvey will be keen to join a club where he is guaranteed game time, with fan favourites Declan Rice and Mark Noble at the base of West Ham’s midfield, that may not be guaranteed in East London.

A selection of Twitter reaction to the proposed move, including posts from unimpressed West Ham fans, can be seen below:
