West Ham United are lining up a £5 million bid for Newcastle United defender Javier Manquillo, that is according to a report from the Northern Echo.
The Spanish right-back’s contract is set to expire in the summer, so the Magpies could look to cash in on him when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Would Manquillo be an upgrade on West Ham's current right-back options
Manquillo began the season in and out of the first team, but he now seems to have nailed down the right-back slot in Steve Bruce’s starting 11 having played 90 minutes in each of Newcastle’s last four Premier League outings (Transfermarkt).
The Hammers are likely to be in the market for a right-back in January. Ryan Fredericks has been the first choice in that position this season but hasn’t done too well. Indeed, after 15 games, he has an average WhoScored rating of just 6.76.
Behind him is Pablo Zabaleta and whilst he has been a quality player in his time in the Premier League, at 34-years-old he is certainly now past his best.
However, it appears that West Ham fans are divided over whether or not Manquillo would be a good signing. Some feel that he would be an upgrade on what they have got, but others aren’t too impressed by the Spaniard’s potential arrival…
Don’t care if he would be an upgrade on what we have currently. We need better if we want to challenge top 7.

Well can he defend if he can that’s a massive plus for us might be able to teach our other players to defend

There’s a reason he’s out of contract, and it’s not positive!

Would be an upgrade on both options currently available
